Why study Sociology?

Beschreibung

Why study sociology and why is it especially important to study sociology these days?

Sociology helps us understand how our society works. It’s like looking at the big puzzle of people’s lives and figuring out how all the pieces fit together. Sociologists study issues such as social justice, freedom, choice, inequality, sustainability, migration, education, family, safety and how these factors shape our lives. They help us understand and tackle complicated social problems, allowing us to make better decisions.

We are experiencing very rapid global and social changes these days. Artificial intelligence, digitalization, migration, diversity, financial crises, global economic interdependencies, political conflicts, wars…

It is today more important than ever to think critically and analyze these changes from a broader perspective. These days we all don't know what the future holds for us and maybe some of us are afraid of the future. Maybe we find it more difficult to understand and control our emotions than we did in the past.

Sociologists study these rapid changes, helping us adapt to new ways of life and understand what the future might hold. Do you want to initiate change and help find solutions to social, political and economic challenges? Then sociology education might be the right choice for you.

To talk and discuss all these topics, you are welcome to attend “Why Study Sociology?” Info-seminar on 29.01. at 06.30 p.m. with Prof. Eva Illouz (Professor of Sociology) and Dr. Defne Erzene-Bürgin (Program Director SPE- Sociology, Politics & Economics).
